Smoke Measuring Instruments
Reference smoke density measurement for accurate, repeatable detector testing.
Explore Our Smoke Measuring Instruments
Getting a smoke detector to pass a test is one thing. Proving the smoke density behind that result was accurate and repeatable is what makes it stand up to scrutiny. The MIC EC-912 gives manufacturers and test teams a defined, reliable reference for smoke concentration, working on its own or alongside your existing optical equipment. Read more about the instrument below.
MIC EC-912 – Measuring Ionisation Chamber
The MIC EC-912 Measuring Ionisation Chamber gives manufacturers and test teams a defined, repeatable reference for smoke density, so you can confirm a smoke detector is responding correctly during compliance testing. Used on its own or alongside optical smoke-measuring equipment, it provides the consistent measurement basis that makes test results comparable and defensible.

FAQs
If you have any additional questions or concerns not addressed in our FAQs, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
What does a measuring ionisation chamber actually do?
It gives you a defined, repeatable reference for smoke density during detector testing. It lets you confirm the smoke concentration in your test is accurate and consistent from one run to the next, which is what makes your results comparable and suitable for compliance decisions.
Which standards does it support?
It’s used for smoke density measurement in EN54-7 and EN14604 test methods, and provides reference measurements for UL217 and UL268 smoke box testing, so it works whether you’re certifying for European or North American markets.
Can I use it alongside my existing equipment?
Yes. It can be used entirely on its own, or in parallel with optical smoke-measuring instruments where you want a second, independent reference. It’s designed to slot into an existing test setup rather than replace it.
How long does it last?
The recommended working life is around ten years from first use. With regular calibration and proper care, that life can often be extended, so it’s a long-term instrument rather than a consumable.
How is it calibrated and serviced?
Calibration and servicing are handled by the manufacturer, Force Technology, to keep the instrument accurate and its documentation valid. We’ll point you in the right direction for arranging this when the time comes.
Can it be operated remotely?
With the optional intelligent control unit, yes. You can adjust chamber voltage, run zero and full-scale calibration before a smoke ramp, and read values over Ethernet or USB.
